The International Motorcycle Federation and the Italian Motorcycle Federation announce the cancellation of the FIM 2021 Rally, originally scheduled in Soverato (RC) from 2 to 4 June.
The FIM and the FMI were forced to make this tough decision given the uncertain evolution of the vaccination campaign in Italy and Europe. An uncertainty that has led many foreign motorcyclists refraining from registering for the 75th edition of the event, which would have taken place in full compliance with COVID-19 regulations.
A painful and difficult decision, which however does not prevent the FMI from looking to the future with optimism and strong commitment. The Italian Motorcycle Federation has already been entrusted with the organisation of the most prestigious FIM international motorcycle touring event for 2024, following on from the 2022 and 2023 editions scheduled to be held in Poland and Spain respectively. Precisely out of respect for the national federations of these two countries, which have already formalised their candidacies to host the event, the FMI has decided to re-propose the FIM Rally in Italy for 2024.
“Despite all the efforts put in place by the organising team and the FMI to organise the 75th edition of the FIM Rally, the FIM Touring & Leisure Commission had to take the difficult decision to cancel the event planned for 2021. This has only been done after having taken all circumstances into consideration and after every potential solution had been fully explored. I am sure that Italy will contribute, with its participation, to the success of the 2022 and 2023 editions already planned in Poland and Spain and will host a memorable FIM Rally in 2024.”
“We never wanted to make the decision to postpone the 75th edition of the FIM Rally, but we couldn’t do otherwise. I would like to thank the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) who supported us from the start and with whom we will continue to collaborate on numerous projects related to motorcycle tourism and beyond. The FIM Rally represents an excellent opportunity for foreign motorcyclists to visit our country. We will be happy to welcome them in 2024, meanwhile there is no shortage of opportunities to discover our territory given the numerous events that the FMI Tourism and Leisure Commission is ready to propose.”
